    Default Cold fusion

    Hi

I am new to the cold fusion and would like to know where can I write the cold
fusion code. For example We can write ASP code in the notepad and save that
file name with.ASP extention . We can see that page from the Web Browser .
Where I can write the Cold fusion code ? I do not have Dreamweaver or any other
software package . Is that possible to write cold fusion code on the note pad ?

    Thanks

You can write ColdFusion code in Notepad also. If you want a editor "tailored" to ColdFusion, check out HomeSite 5 from Macromedia.

CFM is the file extension for ColdFusion pages. CFML stands for ColdFusion
Markup Language, a set of tags and functions that allow you to set variables,
perform arithmetic, loop, execute conditional code, perform SQL database calls,
    and much more.

jdeline has the technical explination correct, but in the same way you can use
..htm or .html for plan HTML files, you can use either .cfm or .cfml as the file
extension for your Coldfusion files. A three-letter file extension is most
common though (blame Windows for that).

ColdFusion is more that one thing. Firstly it is a language called CFML
(ColdFusion Mark Up Language) this is used to make dynamic web pages that can
connect to databases, send email, serve custom content, and many other things.

Secondly, ColdFusion is a Application server. This piece of software is a Java
application that interprets CFML and does the work required and returns the
required information back to the web server.

Now this is a very basic explaination and by no means conclusive but might
clear things up for you a bit.

This is a good place to start:

Read all that stuff and the links on the page, that should give you a really
good idea of what ColdFusion is/does.

    Default Cold Fusion

We are having a crises here at the Chemical Safety Board. Periodically
we send an email newsletter to a large group of people. Cold fusion 6.1
connects to the SQL 7 server to get the list, then passes the emails to the
Exchange 5.5 server. On 8/14, the process worked fine. For the last few days
Cold fusion has not been able to connect to the Exchange server. Recent changes
that have taken place after 8/14 are changing the SQL server userid in the
scripts (was previously SA), and updated Cold fusion from 6.0 to 6.1. We think
that Cold fusion is doing what it is supposed to, and that the connection to
the SQL server is working as it should, but the problem is connecting to the
Exchange server. We would really appreciate your assistance. Thanks in advance.

    Please try the following:

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled
    correctly.

Open the 127.0.0.1 home page, and then look for links to the information you
    want.
Click the Back button to try another link.
