ColdFusion 7 won't work
OS: WinXP Pro (fresh install), CF 7 development machine.
All firewalls and antivirus are "OFF".
IIS is installed and working. When attempting to open CFAdministrator or a
CF file I get an error, "The specified module could not be found".
I searched what could be the cause and found: IIS connectors might not be
installed. I tried to install them via cmd prompt:
c:\cfusionmx7\bin\connectors\iis_connector.bat
I get an error on that
I tried running wsconfig.exe: I get a pop up saying that "jrun32.dll" is
already in use by another process.
I tried running connectorList.bat and error says: There are no configured web
servers.
I tried running IIS_connector.bat and error says: "jrun32.dll" is already in
use by another process.
The add web server configuration tool says that I need to start the CF server.
It is already started. It also says that the jndi.properties file is blocked
or something like that. In another error, can't remember exactly where, it said
the jndi.properties file could not be found in the admin and default folders.
There is only one folder where jndi.properties exists. Also in this tool, I see
IIS can be selected but it is greyed out and none is selected for it.
When I look at the default website in IIS the configuration mappings that
appear for CF are: cfm, cfml, jsp, cfc. These have cascaded to other sites
created in IIS. Doesn't this indicate the modules are indeed installed?
Could not connect to any JRun / coldfusion servers on the localhost, Start
Coldfusion or Jrun servers. jndi.properties cannot be found.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled CF too many times to count. I started with
a freshly formatted hard drive with a fresh install of XP. CF7 was what I
started with then I tried 6 again and back to 7. I even tried the develper
built in server and get the same errors. I have installed CF many times
before and have developing Cf apps for years and have never had these problems.
What the heck is wrong? I have no idea what to do.
Good grief, I know half of this doesn't make any sense to anyone, but it's
worse for me trying to keep track of all these erros and trying to troubleshoot
it. I'm putting it all out there so that hopefully someone who really knows
what they're doing might make some sense of it.
Oh, I installed the latest jre if that means anything. I thought that might
help, but it didn't.
I do see from days spent searching the web that lots of people are having what
sounds to be the same problem.
Thanks,
Laura:disgust;:confused;:confused;:disgust;

Re: ColdFusion 7 won't work
Wow, sure seeing a lot of Coldfusion, with IIS, problems. We use Apache --
you might consider it.
Anyway, if this is a registered copy, you are entitled to free install support
-- try the Macromedia support lines.
Something to try, otherwise:
o-- before running wsconfig.exe, use the service control panel to stop all CF
and jrun services. That should stop the jrun32.dll conflict.
Sorry i can't help more (We keep IIS away from everything we care about) --
but since nobody smarter has chimed in, thought to do what i could.
Cheers,

Re: ColdFusion 7 won't work
Uninstall AGAIN!?
All I keep thinking here is that, This should NOT be this complicated. How
much more un-user friendly can we get here.
It seems I practically have to have been one of the programmers that developed
CF7 just to install it.
Geez!!!!!!
There are very few options during installation. So, I don't see how this is a
user/installers error.

Re: ColdFusion 7 won't work
I agree, I've been uninstalling/reinstalling literally all day.
I've got the command line options for the connector printed out now, so
tomorrow I'm going to try messing with those. I'll post my results.

Re: ColdFusion 7 won't work
Good Luck!
and i really really do mean that Tim
I uninstalled CF and am going to take screen shots of each page as I go when I
reinstall. I will post them on the web and maybe one of the CF gurus can take
a look. I also have screen shots of all the errors and other wierd stuff.
Can you tell I am spending waaayyy too much time with this?!

Yes, after another DAY of experimentation, I'm pretty fed up with this. I've
been a Coldfusion developer and strong proponent since version 4.
Having it uninstallable in a useful way on my new WinXP Pro laptop is highly
frustrating. Can't someone from Macromedia help with this?!
Obviously if the two of us are having the problem, other people are, too!
I'm just going to avoid CF and focus on dot.net on my laptop until this is
resolved.

Re: ColdFusion 7 won't work
I spent all last night reinstalling in every configuration possible. Each and
every time I get the same errors. After the install, which claims success, it
doesn't know what to do with the cfm file and asks me what to open it with.
There are no connectors installed and they won't install.
I noticed that other users have posted similar problems on Macromedia forums.
I think we're being ignored.
I think I'll install .net as well. I need a break from this.

Re: ColdFusion 7 won't work
Go ahead and jump to .net. Good luck. CF may die a slow death anyway (at the
hands of those visionaries at Adobe).
BUT, in fairness, neither of you posted enough real information to be of much
use.
Certainly there was not enough info to duplicate the problem.
I just installed CF7 on my personal XP pro laptop. It installed correctly
and runs fine (in standalone mode, I'm not going to waste any time with IIS
unless someone pays me).
I DID have a problem with CF6 not uninstalling properly, but following my
advice to stop the services (and a reboot) worked.
Good luck,

Re: ColdFusion 7 won't work
FYI, I tried copying a working wsconfig directory from my desktop, and
hand-adding all filters, etc. in IIS.
The connector now sees my hand-made connection as existing, but I can't do
anything with it (if I open it it still shows the error). CFMs still don't
serve from IIS, but now they just give a "page cannot be displayed" rather than
offering the cfm as a download.
Regarding the comment that we didn't post enough real information to be of
much use, what information do you want?
We both stated WinXP Pro SP2 with all unnecessary services, antivirus, etc.
disabled, and gave the full error message:
* Server not running
-- Start Macromedia JRun 4 or Coldfusion MX Server
* Server running
-- JNDI listen port in jndi.properties blocked by tcp/ip filtering or firewall
on server
-- host restriction in security.properties blocking communication with server
Which I'm sure means something to Macromedia...
As for hardware, if it matters, mine is a Dell 9300 Pentium M, 2Ghz, 1 Gig of
RAM.
I also stated that there is no problem with the built-in server, it's just
configuring to IIS, which we've both had no problem with on other systems.
I understand not liking IIS, but if it's on our production systems, it's
better to use the same for development.
In the end, we've both wasted a lot of time on this, and as the old adage
goes, you can bet we aren't the only ones.
MACROMEDIA NEEDS TO LOOK INTO THIS.

Re: ColdFusion 7 won't work
I'll also add:
* Server not running
-- Start Macromedia JRun 4 or Coldfusion MX Server
(confirmed, it IS running)
* Server running
-- JNDI listen port in jndi.properties blocked by tcp/ip filtering or firewall
on server
(there is NO firewall on server, nor is tcp/ip filtering enabled)
-- host restriction in security.properties blocking communication with server
(I've tried this with standard settings AND with opening security.properties
to allow anything, by changing the settings to * as indicated in LiveDocs.)

Re: ColdFusion 7 won't work
I'll add to the momentum. I tried loading MX7 back in Feb 05 on an XP Pro
notebook and gave up. I'm trying again but the exact same problems others here
have noted. I've no firewall, no AV, nothing blocking ports.
After the install, I get the following message:
"...CFMX7 sucessfully installed. However, web server connectors did not
install sucessfully. One possible reason is that port 51011 is blocked."
That's bunk since netstat shows CF using the port. Furthermore, even a basic
scan for a running CFMX (bin\cfscan.bat program) returns the same "server not
running" message.
I set the JRunProxyService deactivated attribute to 'False" in
SERVER-INF\jrun.xml. No change.
There's no restricted list of servers in security.properties. I did notice
that in SERVER-INF\jndi.properties, java.naming.provider.url=localhost:2920
but in CLIENT-INF\jndi.properties, java.naming.provider.url=localhost:2908. So
what do the files in CLIENT-INF control and why don't those same properties
listen in on the same port? I set them to the same port to experiment and the
web connect utilities still claim there's no CFMX7 running.
I've been working w/ CF since version 4x but this install has been the biggest
waste of time yet.

Glad to see more people adding to this... I'm working with a few Macromedia engineers to try and resolve this. So far nothing has helped. I'll certainly post any positive results.

Re: ColdFusion 7 won't work
Do you have PGP installed? I've discovered that having PGP installed will
cause the JRun Web Server Configuration Tool to throw an error. Uninstalling
PGP will solve the problem, but I have not yet worked out exactly WHY this is
happening.

ColdFusion 7 won't work
In IIS at the Default website or subdirectory level, right click and choose properties. In the properties window navigate to the Home Directory tab. In the Application Settings section, click the Configuration button.
In the application configuration window, navigate to the Mappings tab if not already there. Use the Edit button for each Extension that mentions ColdFusion to open the edit window.
Verify that all coldfusion extentions are pointed to an existing JRUN.DLL of the proper ColdFusion version.
For example, .CFM extention should be pointed to C:\ColdFusion9\runtime\lib\wsconfig\1\jrun.dll if you are using ColdFusion 9. This goes in the Executable field of the edit window.
In the Edit window, Select "All verbs", check "Script Engine", and uncheck "Check that file exists".Unregistered Guest
