    Default ColdFusion & MySQL

    Hi,

    I'm a student working on ColdFusion/MySQL project, with a home PC
    configuration of MySQL 4.1.x, IIS on XP Pro and CF MX 6.1 (Developer Edition).
    My project's queries etc work OK at home, but in college, running on a Linux
    server (CF 6.1, possibly more recent version of MySQL than I have at home),
    many of the queries fail to run.

    The syntax seems OK because (a) they work at home and (b) I've tested a number
    of the same queries in phpMyAdmin. An example of a query that doesn't work when
    the CFML page is loaded is as follows:

    <cfquery name="insertMessage" datasource="mysource">
    INSERT INTO Mailings (subject, body, recipients)
    VALUES ('#Form.subject#', '#formattedMessage#', '#recipients#')
    </cfquery>

    Any ideas?? I'm totally stuck!

    Thanks,

    Matt

    What error does it give you? Are you using the same versions of CF and
    the database in both environments?

    Hi,

    I'm not in college right now, I'm afraid, but if I recall, it was simply
    something like "database error/error executing query". I will reproduce the
    error and post the details.

    According to the documentation, the college is running MySQL 4.0.8 (on a Linux
    server of some sort, running Apache), whilst I'm running 4.1. In both cases
    it's CF MX 6.1, although at home it's the developer edition and it's on IIS.

    The SELECT queries work OK, but the DELETE, UPDATE and INSERT queries do not
    (except when I enter them directly into phpMyAdmin or MySQL). The error does
    give a line number, which is how I was able to trace it back to the UPDATE
    queries etc.

    Thanks,

    Matt

    Matt,

    Sounds like it could be some type of permission problem. The user you may be
    connecting to the database may not have access to modify table data (which is
    why select world work).

    Just a thought... something to check anyway.

    Thanks! I added in username and password parameters for the cfquery tag on all update/delete/insert queries and that seems to have solved the problem.

    Thanks again,
