Coldfusion MX 6.1 - Verity on Redhat 9 Linux will notindex .doc (MS Word) files - Coldfusion - Advanced Techniques

I'm running Coldfusion MX 6.1 on Redhat 9. I've applied the updater and hotfix53361_611.zip which should get Verity running on Redhat 9. Verity does run and it adds .doc (MS Word) files to the collection, but there is no summary information associated with the entry in the collection. This means if cfsearch is used with a keyword and that keyword is in the .doc file Verity will not be able to find it. Has anyone else ran into this problem? Is this being worked on? Or should I try something else?...

The words you search on are not just the words in the summary, they are all
the words in the indexed doents.

I *think* the Verity word filter will use the Word doent summary and will
not create one itself, so if that is empty on the doent it will be empty
    in the CF result set.

Thanks for responding. On Windows, Verity will index .doc (MS Word) files even
if the MS Word file doesn't have a summary. On Linux however, the data
returned in the summary variable by cfsearch is empty for these files. In
fact, the only data types I've been able to see data in the cfsearch summary
variable are text and html file types. I've searched MM's knoweledge and
haven't been able to find any information saying it shouldn't work (just the
usual limitation of PDFs on Linux).
