ColdFusionMX6.1 and Hyperthreading
We've been having some problems lately, where CPU usage will get pegged at
25% and the website becomes incredibly slow and unresponsive. Once in a while,
in that state, it'll go slightly above 25% to maybe 30%. We just received new
servers, which are dual xeon dell's. Hyperthreading is enabled, so there are a
total of 4 processors that win2k3 sees. It makes sense to me that CFusionMX is
getting pegged at 25%, as that is equivilant to 1 virtual processor. Is
ColdfusionMX multithreaded? I imagine the times that it goes above 25% are
garbage collecting threads, or so I've read. In the edition guide for CFMX7,
macromedia lists:
High-Performance, Multithreaded Architecture
Get more flexible configuration options for e-mail, full-text search, and
other features utilizing the high-performance multithreaded architecture.
... under enterprise ediiton, which is the version that we have of mx6.1. Any
input would be greatly appreciated.

We're running MX 6.1 enterprise on Solaris 8 with 2 processors, and it eats up
both of them very nicely :-)

Re: ColdFusionMX6.1 and Hyperthreading
Please do a thread dump using technote 18339 while your server is unresponsive.
The 6.1 updater would be suggested after that. From the thread dump, we'll
be able to figure out what you system is doing and where things are stuck.
Most of the ones we diagnose end up being "known issues" with fixes. There are
rare cases where environment and coding cause problems.
