Color menu items? (StatusItems?) - Mac Programming

Hey All-- I'm writing software for Jaguar, and I'm wondering if there's a way to set the color that a menu or menu item displays in. More specifically, is there a way to do it for a StatusItem? I see the setAttributedTitle message, but sending a title in red yields the correct title, only in black. tia, mark -- |\/| /| |2 |< mehaase(at)sas(dot)upenn(dot)edu...

I'd be surprised if it worked under OS X.
    Menus.h says:

    Menu Item Color Tables
Menu color manipulation is considered deprecated with the advent of the
Appearance Manager. Avoid using these routines if possible

but, RegisterMefinition() and CreateCustomMenu() are in Menus.h in
Carbon. If you don't want to go to the bother of completely defining
your own new menu type, then you might consider SetMenuItemIconHandle()
and an assortment of colorful icons.

OS 10.1 or higher: Set any menu item's attribute to
kMenuItemAttrCustomDraw and then install a kEventMenuDrawItemContent
handler on the menu. There you can render the menu item however you see
    fit.

If you are lucky enough to target 10.3+, all menus are now WindowRefs
and you can use HIViews for super-cool menu rendering:

    [snip]

Then Apple needs to fix something on its website, because I asked it
to specifically search under the OS X doentation!! (Might explain
why I was surprised to see X still using MCTB resources, though...)
