    Default Color Palette Restrictions?

    Hi all,

I'm using Adobe Illustrator 9 and I've been sent a template for a design, which is in AI 6 format.

    I've done the work, but the trouble is, whenever I save it, one of the colours changes slightly - from the RGB color I want it to be - R: 238, G: 0, B: 0 - to this color R: 236, G: 19, B: 10 .

This happened to a few of the colors earlier, but I somehow fixed it and I have no idea how.

Can anyone tell me why this happens and how I can change it?

    Cheers.

    Jonathan,

I suspect you are being dealt a real-world reminder that IL 6 was not a color-managed application while IL 9 is.

I'm not sure about 9, but 10 gives you color setting presets for "Color Management Off" and "Emulate Adobe Illustrator 6.0." If available in 9, one of those two should address your immediate problem.

The longer term solution -- bringing legacy IL documents into a color-managed workflow -- will require some study and thought.

    Jonathan,

    Jacob has reminded me...

Prior to version 9, there was no RGB document mode in Illustrator. It's fine to use the RGB sliders, but if you want your IL 6 documents to behave properly (color-wise) in IL 9 or newer, you should stay in CMYK mode.

If you convert to RGB, you must expect changes of the kind you described, depending on the workspace profiles you've selected in color settings.
