Default Color to Grayscale in Distiller joboptions

I'm working on a book that contains 135 graphics provided by the client that I have opened and resaved in Illustrator. They contain gradients and look black and white, but when I check the output dialog box, all 4 color plates show up.

If I make a press-ready PDF in Distiller and change the "Leave Colors Unchanged" item to "Print Colors Grayscale" will this convert whatever is color to grayscale? The book interior is printing in black only and I want to make sure that I send the printer the right thing.

    Thanks.

What version of Distiller are you using? I don't see a "Print Colors Grayscale" option there.

If you have Acrobat 7 Professional, you can use the Convert Colors tool to convert a PDF with various color spaces to grayscale by choosing a Grayscale output profile.

I misspoke. I changed colors to grayscale when making the postscript file. I'm using Acrobat 6, and searched "convert colors" but don't understand all the options. Does Acrobat 7 contain this grayscale output profile? If so, I'll go buy it right now.

As Steve correctly stated - it's available once the PDF has been created
by running a CONVERT COLORS command under the *NEW* Print Production
    category.

Your current method might work for TIFF and vectors, but will not for
    EPS files ...

Keep running and go buy it !

    Cheers!
