Colorized GS tiff weirdness - Adobe Indesign Macintosh

OS 10.4.8 IDCS2 I am surprised I have never noticed this. If you place a GS tiff in IDCS2, then select it with the direct select tool, and use the tint field in the swatch palette to screen it back to, say 30% of the default black swatch, then turn on overprint preview, the 30% screen will go away, and the separation palette will read 100% where there should be 30%. It does not however print this way. And this display anomoly does not occur with any of the other stock swatches. As far as I can see there is ...

As far as I can see there is no preference that affects this.

I had such "overprint default [Black]" issues until InDesign 2 only, since CS1 the overprint default [Black] issue is solved to me. May be this helps ...:

(...) the default black is set to overprint. You can turn off black overprint
    off in preferences.

You can create a new cmyk swatch with 0,0,0,100k and colorize the object
to this swatch. The preference for overprint black only deals with the
    default black swatch.

Note: If you send live files to a vendor, they may overide the trap or
    overprint settings.

This has nothing to do with overprinting.

    Hm?

This has nothing to do with overprinting.

Your question - or my first reply? - Sorry if I completely misunderstood this topic.

    Yes, you did.

Turning on overprint preview usually yields the best and most accurate preview that InDesign can generate. Spot colours are calculated more accurately, every image is automatically displayed in high res and (that too) overprinting areas are displayed as overprinting.
Turning on overprint preview is the same as turning on separation preview (without turning off any channels).

John, as far as I can make out this must be a bug in the OP preview. The display is just fair and simply wrong.

Ah…thought it meant GulfStream. A photo of a plane or something. :-)
