Default Colors print incorrectly with transparency or placed objects

    Hello,

I am a new user to InDesign (2.0) so this may be something really basic that I'm missing. Every time I place a object with transparency in an Indesign document, it changes the color of the entire page. The color in the graphics frame prints correctly but surrounding color is all much darker. I have opened the graphics I am placing in photoshop, given them a background layer with the exact CMYK values as the background color of the InDesign document, and flattened them into jpegs, but the problem still occurs! The colors look a perfect match on the screen, but when printed only the frame color is correct and the rest of the pages colors are in dark shadow. The only way I have found to get around this in InDesign is by making a blank, transparent layer in photoshop the same size as my InDesign Document and placing it over the entire page in InDesign. I have also got around it by copying all elements in InDesign and pasting them into Illustrator where they print correctly.

I am writing from New Zealand where few people seem to use InDesign (still primarily Quark) so I haven't been able to find anyone who can sort it out. I have also had numurous problems with generated pdfs sent to printers, but's that's for another post! If anyone can help me sort out this color problem, I would be very appreciative as InDesign seems like a great program and it's a shame I have barely been able to use it since purchasing!
