This was originally posted in the colormanagement forum and then i tried to
send it here as well, but it doesn't seem to have posted... sorry for the
duplicate posts... but am desperate :( Please see below:

profile click the drop down on the profile, what can you see?

Under CMYK I have:

1/ US Web Coated & Uncoated V2
2/ US Sheetfed Coated & Uncoated V2
3/ Euroscale Coated & Uncoated V2
4/ Japan Standard V2

No ColorMatch

The only ColorMatch i have is ColorMatch RGB.

What i need is ColorMatch 3.01 for CMYK and for Windows... not Mac. The
print house has specifically asked for CMYK and ColorMatch 3.01.

Ok I only have the rgb one, not sure why they would need it as colour match though, are you having a one off chroamaline? or printing to press?

Mmmm. i have the RGB one as well.... need the CMYK... it's for a print job
(press) not a chromaline. The profile is actually ColorMatch 3.01.... saw it
on the web while doing a search but no way to download it.

Then you dont need colourmatch, use the euroscale coated, or uncaoted depending on job. Colour match for press, thats a new one on me.

Jay: ColorMatch is an RGB profile, there is no CMYK version. What the printer is asking is to use the ColorMatch RGB for conversion to CMYK.

For CMYK they are setting these parameters:

SWOP INK
SHEET FET
COATED STOCK
14% DOT

read this as web offset ink on a sheetfed press, coated stock with a 14% dot gain.

It was not abundantly clear what they want. I would ask the printer for their CMKY press profile.

As far as using ColorMatch RGB, you would need to set your monitor for that as they have done in their shop.

Thanks for the response but this is what i found on the net....


"RGB= Color Match RGB or Adobe RGB
CMYK= Colormatch swop 3.01 CMYK. If you don't have Colormatch swop 3.01 use
U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) V2.
Gray= Gamma 2.2
Spot= Dot Gain 20% "

Therefore it seems to me that ColorMatch 3.01 is a definite profile. Please
refer to my post to Thee_DarkOverLord.... where i quoted what they were
asking for....

They have clearly said... do not send RGB... send CMYK with the following
profile... see quote above.... now, i'm very confused.... perhaps i should
do what Thee_DarkOverLord suggested and just send them Euroscale Sheetfed?
Only thing i'm hassled about is that they may use this to:

1/ Justify additional processing/system charges
2/ Explain away inadequate quality

I've asked them to send me the .icc file and that's what i got.

Grateful for any help... suggestions.

There actually is or was a set of ColorMatch 3.01 CMYK profiles that shipped with the later versions of Radius PressView software with the old PressView monitors. Those profiles were pretty decent for their time, but generally other solutions are better these days.

If you're going to use an ICC profile for your conversion, it's going to be either that profile OR the classic setup where you specify dot gain and ink limits, but not both. The dot gain compensations are contained within the profile and are not changeable.

The Radius PressView monitor standard is what Adobe based "ColorMatch RGB" when that was introduced in PS 5. Back then, it was Radius' method of making many monitors look virtually the same - guarantee the same calibration standard while recommending similar viewing conditions. How many of us still have the black "stealth" apron that they (I think) expected us to wear while editing.
