Thanks. That seems to have done the trick.

Thanks, I've been looking for something better, and this might be it.

Unfortunately no. Since CF cards cannot ever be in HFS format, this means that
Norton Unerase or none of my other utilities will work.

of course they can be hfs. you can format them anything you want. they
are usually fat16 becase thats what digital cameras handle. some recent
higher end cameras do fat32 for the >2g cards.

if you use the card for transfering files between macs, hfs+ is
    certainly the better option.

How do I format them in HFS format? Every CF card I have inserted in my USB CF
drive cannot format into anything but FAT16. But then again I'm not using OSX,
nor any third party formatting software. My CF drive did not include any
    tools applications.

Suppose I could format the disk in HFS format, could my camera use it?

Of co... I can run disk checks on them, and do many more things I cannot
do with DOS disks. Thats why all my Zip disks are in HFS format.

in osx, just use disk copy. however, in os9, that didn't seem to work
and finder's erase disk didn't offer an option for the filesystem.

there is probably a way to do it but i did not pursue it since i use
osx and if i need hfs i'll format it there.

as i said before, digital cameras only handle fat16 and recently, fat32
    also.
