    Default Compatitbility Concerning Upgrading.

At my company, we have decided to upgrade from Adobe Illustrator Version 7.0 to Adobe Illustrator CS. Will we need to upgrade to 8, 9, and 10 in order to benefit from this purchase or can we directly upgrade from Version 7? Thank you.

You should be able to upgrade directly.

An upgrade version of any Adobe program is generally identical to the full-priced version except that you will be asked to provide proof of previous version ownership during the installation process. Any previous version will do. If the older version has been uninstalled, you will need the original CD.

If you have not uninstalled the older version, take care not to install the new version over the old -- i.e., install into a completely new folder. Yes, both old and new versions can co-exist.

Related to the above message, I have several users who still use Illustrator 7 and I now have Illustrator CS. I don't have any Legacy version 7 save capability. CS only offers versions 10,9,8, and jumps all the way down to 3! Is there any way to save to version 7?

Is there a place on the Adobe site to download the file that does this. I went from Version 9 to CS and expected to still be able to save to version 7 since it was such a popular version. As it is I need to have ver. 9 still installed in order to save to 7!

    Thanks, Paul

I keep 7, 9 and 10 installed, just to help me answer questions in here. It's also handy for saving legacy files.

I have 10 and am receiving CS files - but can't do anything with them. The CS file holders are telling me they can't save their files as an older version AI, their *.eps and PDF files don't work either. Are we doing something wrong? Missing a step?

Morons. Tell them they need to Export to an earlier version.

OK, I take back the "morons" comment. That question does come up a lot.
