concatenating in xp_sendmail message - Microsoft SQL / MS SQL Server

Hi, I'm sending an email with xp_sendmail and trying to use this concatenate a variable to text, e.g.... "message='Hello, please repond to '++ Rep." Rep is my variable (like you didn't know that), and it should read "Hello, please resond to Microsoft". But I get this error "Incorrect syntax near '+'." Can you not concatenate in this manner? Thanks, Bruce...

    Hi,

I'm sending an email with xp_sendmail and trying to use
this concatenate a variable to text, e.g....
"message='Hello, please repond to '++ Rep."

Rep is my variable (like you didn't know that), and it
should read "Hello, please resond to Microsoft".

But I get this error "Incorrect syntax near '+'."
Can you not concatenate in this manner?

    Thanks,

    Bruce

    Try:
message = 'Hello, please respond to ' + Rep

    Declare a local variable first.

    DECLARE msg VARCHAR(255)
SET msg = 'Hello, please repond to ' + Rep

    EXEC xp_sendmail
    message = msg,
    ...

(Only one + for concatenation, btw, not two.)

    Thanks for the tip.

But if I wanted to insert a carrige return line feed
(CR/LF) inside the message, how would that be done?

    Thanks again,

    Bruce

You would concatenate a CR/LF pair.

    SET msg = 'Hello, please repond to ' + CHAR(13) + CHAR(10) + Rep
