Connecting to database in different server
Hi all,
I just installed Cold Fusion Developer edition in my PC, and I was wondering
whether I can connect it to an Access database that resides in my ISP's server.
Is this possible? If so, how?
Much appreciate your help.

server, there's no real way to do this (that I know of anyway) unless
your ISP lets you create a mapped drive to their server. If the CF
server sees the drive as local *and* has the appropriate permissions
(which by default it wouldn't since it runs as the "System" user), then
you might have a shot at getting this working.

Re: Connecting to database in different server
Thanks for the answer. Would it make any difference if I use MySQL instead of Access?

Re: Connecting to database in different server
MySQL is a server database, not a file-based program. As long as your ISP allows connections to the DB server from outside their network, you should be able to connect easily.

etc. (at least from the perspective we're talking about here; I don't
want this to turn into a database war!) as opposed to a file-based
setup like Access. That means if you have MySQL running on a different
server you can connect directly to the database server by setting up a
datasource in the CF administrator. Database servers like this are
designed to handle multiple connections coming from outside sources.
