Connecting to FrontPage enabled server
Hi All,
I am forced to connect to a FrontPage enabled server from DW8. I have
installed the DW MX2004 Publish Web Extension, which I hoped would allow me to
use HTTP instead of FTP to connect to the remote server. However, the
extension does not show up in the Remote Info: Access: Drop down menu list in
the Site Definition Dialogue Box.
My questions are:
Is the Dreamweaver MX 2004 Publish Web extension compatible with Dreamweaver
8 (in which case I have done something wrong).
Is there an alternate way of connecting to a FrontPage enabled server that
allows me to preserve a site definition?
Thank you for any help/comments.

Re: Connecting to FrontPage enabled server
Hey Nick:
I am actually having the exact same problem and no you aren't doing anything
wrong. I called tech support and there is no planned release for any
dreamweaver 8 extension for a frontpage enabled server so it looks like its
going to be up to third party members to create one. I've yet to figure out
how the leading website creation program doesn't have this functionality in it.
Can anyone else shed some light on this issue?

Re: Connecting to FrontPage enabled server
I'm in exactly the same boat. Luckily, today's installation of Dreamweaver 8
didn't overwrite my installation of MX 2004.
But haven't the front page extensions always been produced by 3rd parties? I
don't think Macromedia can officially provide it in the software as they'd
probably have to pay a licence to Microsoft.

Re: Connecting to FrontPage enabled server
I found a way around the problem rather than trying to build/find an extension.
I had the server administrator activate WebDAV and I use that to transfer
files from DW8 to the server. It works fine and just needs some permissions
enabled by the administrator.

Re: Connecting to FrontPage enabled server
Unfortunately I don't have that option. We're phasing out the FP server, but while it exists, all none FP access is disallowed.

Re: Connecting to FrontPage enabled server
Yea i doubt i will be able to get any other activation applied because the
server belongs to a university and i dont have the access nor the authority to
change any of it. Anyone know where we can find this third party extension?
and as i am kind of novice to the world of websites can someone explain to me
why one of the leading website programs transfer protocol was not included in
DW8?
