Connecting two macs - Mac Networking

hi, I've got a B&Wg3 which acts as a file server/router, and a G4 which i do video editing on. They are connected via 100Mbs ethernet, but I would like to connect them with something a bit faster. I've had problems using TCP/IP over firewire (the BWG3 stopped serving traffic from ethernet... :-(...). I was wondering if firewire support has got any better with 10.3. Alternatively I could buy two Apple PCI-X gigabit ethernet cards. Does anyone know if they would work ok in a BWg3? Dale -- o.matic.bigpond.net.au...

Dunno if Gb Enet card wold wwork in B&W G3, but I seriously doubt you
would gain over the 100 Mb Enet. The PCI bus in the G3 is just not that
    fast.

    Dale-

Are they the only two machines involved? At work recently, I saw a technician
connect two Macs together using a firewire cable. He booted one with the T key
held down, and it appeared as a drive on the other machine's desktop. He then
copied the contents of one to the other. It took a while, but several
    gigabytes of data was transferred.
