Default connection using dial-up modem - XP Home Edn.

This happened to me after a very recent windows update.
System became unstable after two weeks and then crashed.
My internet connection would not work. Modem works as I
    tested with the phone dialer.

I wanted to reinstall the internet connection using the
manual selection for my ISP. After that selection, next
window brings me to Internet Connection with following
    options:
    o Dial-up modem
    o Broadband connection (DSL)
    o Broadband connection (Cable)

    This the problem:
It will only allow me to connect to the 3rd option which
I do not have. I really want to connect using Dial-Up
modem. Options 1 and 2 have been grayed.

Can any body help with suggestions as to what file got
clobbered by Windows Update and any solution to restore
    this file.
