What connection type are you using? please confirm if your using either FTP or SFTP ensure that servers are running fine.

Are you using WebDAV? I have a similar error. I administer my site via
Dreamweaver. I fail to connect. If I delete the _mm folder on the web server, I
can set up the connection again, but it will fail on the next attempt "WebDAV
user name or password error".
