    Hi,

Check language setting in "Start > Settings > Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Advanced > ... language version of non-unicode programs...". Setting to "English (US)" seems to solve the problem.

My Illustrator CS crashes often too.
I use Win XP; it worked perfectly until a few days ago and then the menus started to desapear, the interface went white and in the end it crashed. I have reinstalled it and the problems continue to appear. I even reinstalled my opperating system but it still doesnt work.
It might seem that there is a hardware problem, but my system is fine, the other programs the same and the strange thing is that it worked well before (I have not changed anything in my computer before the problems to start). Could you give me some advice? I don't know what to do. Thanks.

    Davian,

Have you tried deleting your prefs (Details in the FAQ at the top of this
    forum's Topic List)? A re-install wouldn't delete your prefs.

Also, as a diagnostic, you could try turning down your hardware acceleration
to zero - it that helps then you definitely have a video driver problem and
    require an updated driver.

Thank you. I managed to solve the problem. It seems to be something in connection with the language settings for non-unicode programs. But, interesting thing, after I rebooted my computer, the preferences where lost. Do you know anything about that?

    Davian,

If you don't find Preferences at bottom of Edit menu, then do a delete of AIPrefs file (close Illustrator, click the Illustrator Launch icon and IMMEDIATELY hold down CONTROL SHIFT ALT keys until you get the message asking Do you wish to delete all Illustrator settings? Say YES and Illustrator will open with a new set of original defaults for settings.

    Meho,

Since this is not "normal" we have to have more intformation on your system and what perhaps you may be running that's causing your problem. Are you running anything by Norton? If so was it, or any virus scanner active when you installed your system? Using Win XP Pro, do you have Administrative rights? Do you regularly perform a Defrag of your working and caching hard drives? What does your Resource meter say while running Illustrator and this happens?

    Meho,
    Have you tried this:

Check language setting in "Start > Settings > Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Advanced > ... language version of non-unicode programs..."?
Setting to "English (US)" (have to restart) seems to solve the problems.
By some reason Ill CS "eats" almost all GDI resources with other codepage settings.

    Meho,

Thanks for that tip. I'll have to add that to my problem check list. It seems like many must be using other than English US when having this problem. An easy area to forget.

    Bob,
You did mean "Boyan", I suppose. Anyway, I'm not so vain. The most important thing is when the problem will be fixed. Some programs need settings for other languages and this practically make IllCS useless (if you don't want to restart each time you need to work with it, or may be her, as someone wrote).

    Boyan,

I indeed mean Boyan. I do apologize. I looked up too quickly for the name and didn't go high enough. Not vain on your part at all, as a matter of fact. Thanks.

It worked!!! Changing "language version of non-unicode programs..." to English US really solved all problems. I did'n mention before that some fonts wasn't displayed correctly od palettes (were too large and there wasn't enough room...), but now everything seems to be OK.

All I can say is THANK YOU VEEEEEERY MUCH, guys, you're real friends.

I'm having the same problem, too: "Could Not Complete the Requested Operation", when the program finished loading. Illustrator CS crashes after that.

It happens about 75% of the time on my machine:
    Dell Dimension8300
    1024 meg DDR RAM
    NVidia GeForce FX 5200
    WindowsXP SP1

I am having exactly the same problem. If only Illustrator had a error log file !!!

I been in contact with Adobe support and they havnt provided a solution. This company has the worst support out of any I have ever used.

I am literally losing thousands a week because of the fact this software wont start up. And YES I've tried everything !!!

As i wrote in earlier posts, there a little patch - not made by Adobe - that fixes the Non-unicode issue
I don't know if it's legal to write about this in this forum, but I have this patch and i'm willing to share with others
This post doesn't say anything about any illegal software or some sort of warez, me thinks

    RR,

Telling someone about a product or reviewing it is not advertising, as such, and is perfectly acceptable in the User to User forums. Repeating it over and over or scattering the same thing over many of the forums is another thing.

I've tried all of those solutions sugested. All but one (which is stupid anyway). As if Im going to sit here and break up several thousand fonts to isolate one that is bad, and repeat the process and so on...

I still dont understand why there is no error log for the software! If there is, someone please tell me about it !!!

This software is a waste of money ! I strongly recomend that no one buy CS 11. Especially if your work is critical to business.

    Ahmed,

Several thousand fonts???? Are you aware that it's recommended that you NOT have more than 150 or so fonts installed AND active while using Illustrator? For those of us wishing to install over that number, it's recommended you use an external font manager (even with XP) such as Adobe's ATM Deluxe or Bitstream's Font Reserve which allows you to install as many fonts as you wish, but also allows you to create custom sets of fonts which you can make active when needed with a click and then inactive quickly as well to keep your font management under control, thus releasing your resources for other uses. I suspect this is your problem. It also allows for an easier way to check for corrupted fonts, as well. Unless a font is active, it won't effect your use of Illustrator if corrupted.
