Default Contribue 3.0 Says I am Alreadying Editing Page

I have the Macromedia contribue 3.0 for my website and on three of the pages I
can't edit them because it says "MMcC**** is already editing this page, contact
MMcC for assistance," the problem is that I am MMcC and I have no clue what it
is talking about and how to fix it. Any clue how to resolve this?

What you will have to do is have your server admin delete the locked (.lck) file from the server. That should free up the page for editing.

I am having this same problem. All of a sudden my users keep getting locked

I am experincing the same problem (and have been for a while). I have learned
that deleting the .LCK is the answer. However, when I use a WS_FTP program to
delete the .LCK from the server, it will reappear when I try to make the edit
with Contribute. Frustrated.
I then tried to delete the page with the .LCK extension. However Contribute
advised that "Access denined. There could be a permission problem". And I am
set up as administrator?? Really , really frustrated.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Clear the Contribute Preference and also login to the server where the site id
created and delete the .LCK files causing this issue.
To clear the preference follow the below mentioned steps.
1) Quit Contribute
2) Go to C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application
Data\Adobe\ and delete Contribute CS3 folder.
3) launch command prompt and run "reg delete "HKCU\Software\Adobe\Contribute
4.1" /f" if you are using Adobe Contribute CS3.

For Macromedia Contribute 3.0 run reg delete
"HKCU\Software\Macromedia\Contribute 3.0" /f and delete the folder in your
local machine in C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local
Settings\Application Data\Macromedia\

I am concerned about the above response. It still has me go into the program
after the file is locked. I would like to prevent this from happening. I cannot
be available for each users each time they use Contribute and need a file
unlocked. Is there anyway that the user can unlock their own file or advise us
how to prevent this from happening.
Thank,
Nancy

You will not loose the whole webpage by deleting the lck-file.

I have tried the fix of deleting the lck file and it basically doesn't work. I
deleted the lck file and the entire site from My Connections, my client
uninstalled Contribute and upgraded to Contribute CS3, then we reestablished
the Contribute connection. Within a week, we were getting the same error
message. This is clearly a program bug that Adobe seems uninterested in fixing.

Have you checked if there are new .lck files on the server after you deleted
them and made a new edit to the website, or your client of course?

I experienced trouble with this once with a client with a particular network
(can't remeber the details though).
Somehow Contribute lost contact with the website during the ftp process and
the .lck files got left on the server after every edit en publish action on a
page.

Maybe you can try analizing the situation at your or your clients network and
try different ftp-settings.

Are you the Adminstrator?

I haven't done this for a long time, but I think you can take over the page in the Draft Console by either changing the owner, or undo the checkout.

If you type .LCK (don't forget the period) after the url that you cannot
connect to) hit return. That brings you to the locked page. Then on the menu
bar go to file...actions....delete page. That will delete the locked page and
you will be set to go.

I am having this same problem. Contribute CS3 v4.1

Before I check out the file, there is no lock. When I click checkout, it
creates a lock and then tells me "you can't edit this page now because you are
already editing it on another computer. Click here to make this page editable."
When I click on that, I get a dialog box asking if I'm sure I want to remove
the lock. If I say "Yes", it removes the lock, and the page is no longer
editable. I am back to square 1.

I can edit / checkout via Dreamweaver just fine. This seems to be a Contribute
deal. It's almost like it's making the lock first, then trying to get the file,
but whoa-- it's locked.

I am all of a sudden having the same issue. (Contribute CS3 - page is locked -

again - it is never unlocked)

Has a solution been found?

You may have LCK files on your local computer that are part of the problem. See http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_16657&sliceId=1
