Default Contribute 3 - Entry Point Not Found

After installing Contribute 3, when I try to run the program I get an error of
'Contribute.exe - Entry Point Not Found'. Uninstalling/Reinstalling the
software does not solve the problem. This has happened on several computers
with different configurations. Everything is at least Windows XP w/SP2 and
256MB or 512MB RAM. I've found some old information about Contribute 2, but
nothing that would relate to Contribute 3. Any clues on why this is happening
or what I can do to solve the problem? Thanks much.

    Hi LISHD,

If you have installed at the default location, then the path to Contribute
    exe will be "C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Contribute 3\Contribute.exe".
I think you must be tring to invoke the contribute using one of the following
    way:
    1. shortcut on the desktop or
    2. going through the Start Programs like Start->Programs->Macromedia->
    Macromedia Contribute 3
    3. OR a shortcut in the Quick launch bar

Right click on the shortcut you are using to invoke Contribute -> Go to the
properties->go to shortcut tab and verify the contents in target field. Verify
that it should be "C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Contribute 3\Contribute.exe" if
you have installed n the default location or if you have installed in some
other location, it should show the right path to Contribute.exe"

    Thanks,
    Manoj

That unfortunately is not the problem. We have tried to run the program
directly from the .EXE located in the default Program Files directory. Same
error message. When we upgrade to version 3.1, the error message becomes:

    "The procedure entry point
    ?IsOfFileType@VRI@MMNetIO@@UBE_NABV?$basic_string@ DV?$char_traits@D@std@@V?$allo
cator@D@2@@std@@@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library NetIO.dll"

Does anyone have an answer to this problem? I've tried installing Contribute
now onto at least 5 different machines and have had the same error message. On
some computers, it works fine the first time without us doing anything.

I know this is an older topic. But I have just installed the contribute 3.11
trial on my own machine and I am getting the same error.

    Contribute.exe Entry point not found
The procedure entry point GetProcessImageFileNameW could not be located in the
    dynamic link library PSAPI.DLL

I tried it out on another machine and guess what! I got exactly the same error!

These are brand new installs on clean windows machines (just reloaded).

    Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

    Hi Lasik,

Thanks for the reply. I have IE7 Beta 3 installed but that was not the
problem. The problem has turned out to be Norton Antivirus. For some reason it
was the issue. I uninstalled it and went to another Antivirus program and now
Contribute is working the way it is supposed to.

    Thanks again!

We do not have IE7 of any sort on our machines and we are using Sophos Anti-Virus. I could try to uninstall that and see if it resolves the problem, but I'm not thinking that'll do the trick.

    Hi,

Two issues resolved the problem here:
    1. Nortan Antivirus
    2. IE 7Beta2

Contribute typically should not behave this way atleast in our future
relases. Can you let us know about the version of Antivirus ran on the machine.

Also, LISHD can you try this work around? Create a fresh local user on your
OS and login and install CT 3.11? does this behave the same way or it works?

LISHD, if that solves i would be interested to debug this problem by getting
a list of applications running on the systems which throwed this error Vs List
of applicatons running on the system in which CT worked fine.

    Thanks

Sorry it took so long to reply!

Amadas, it was Norton Antivirus 2006 with the latest patches/updates
installed. I have since switched to Kaspersky Internet Security 6.

    I am using IE 7 Beta 3.

Doctor I had another machine that I had installed the Contribute trial on and
I was receiving the same error message. I tried your suggestion by renaming
PSAPI.dll to PSAPI.dll.old and that solved the problem even with Norton AV 2006
    installed on that machine.

    Thanks again for the help!

    Cheers!

I am encountering the same error message:

    Run Contribute version 3.11.0.2419
"Contribute has encountered a problem and needs to close."

I tried running it a second time, without rebooting.

"Contribute.exe - Entry Point Not Found"
"The procedure entry point GetProcessImageFileNameW could not be located in
    the dynamic link libarary PSAPI.DLL"

    Running Windows XP SP2
    Running Sophos Anti-Virus, version 6.0.2
    Running Internet Explorer 7 Beta3 (v 7.0.5450.4)

I saw the other comment that uninstalling IE beta fixed the problem, but am a
bit hesitant of doing this until I get another confirmation that this is the
    proper way to fix this.

Any more suggestions to get this to work?

    Hi,

Contribute currently ships with an old version of PSAPI.dll.
Therefore, after installing IE 7 Beta, some users might experience a problem
    in launching Contribute.

    To work around this error
    1. Navigate to the installation forlder of Contribute
    2. Rename the PSAPI.dll to something like PSAPIOld.dll
    3. Reboot the system.

    Hope this helps.

I almost forgot about this topic.

We've installed Contribute 3.1 onto a Windows Vista workstation and we are
receiving the same error as I detailed previously. This is a completely
different machine, different hardware, different user. I even tried the
    PSAPI.dll renaming just for kicks.

    Any more clues?
