Contribute crashing when go to publish draft.

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can shed light on this for me. I built our site on a G4
powerbook. I have made it live and worked on it using Contribute extensively.
After handing the site over to the client, they simply cannot edit it as
whenever they check out drafts and go to Publish, it says it cannot connect to
the server and logs them out. They then have to reconnect, but the file they
were working on becomes corrupted; in fact emptied, I guess because it didn't
finish publishing.

Some info to help.

- they are using PCs and accessing the internet through a network hub
- I am using OS X, connecting straight to the internet, which works fine.
- They have deleted the software and re-installed, creating new users for
themselves again too.
- They have just changed network providers. I had hoped this would solve the
problem, but alas it hasn't.

I'm completely stuck here and not sure where to look. My only guess is that
it's to do with them connecting through a network. I need answers fast as they
have the network guys coming in tomorrow to sort out other stuff, so it would
be good to give them an idea.

you mentioned that they just changed network providers? maybe they are using
the wrong connection information, I suggest that they need to verify it it with
their hosting company and try to recreate the connection.

You might want to let them download an FTP client just to check if they can
access the server using a seperate FTP program just to be sure that the problem
is not with the server.

if the issue is not with the server, try checking if you have they have any
softwarer like a firewall client or maybe a proxy server used by their network
this could be conflicting with contribute trying to connect to the server.

Thanks for that. I got in touch with software support in the end. It was a conflict with the Proxy server, seems to be all sorted now.
