Contribute -- handcode, server?
I have been investigating Contribute 3 for possible use in the updating of a
website for a local nonprofit. There are two questions that I have not found
answers to, though they may be silly questions.
1) Does Contribute 3 require a separate application running on the server, or
does it do all its work through the client-side apps?
2) Can you do handcoding using Contribute 3? I have read that it doesn't
support it in the same way that Dreamweaver does, but without Dreamweaver, is
it possible to use C3 to check out a file, then open it in notepad or
something, then check back in?
Thanks for your time

Re: Contribute -- handcode, server?
Contribute can work stand alone, and does not require server app, or any app,
to be used.
There is no code view, or any ability to directly edit code; the main reason
Contribute exists is to allow non-coders to maintain Web sites. It works best
with a group of non-coders, and at least one Web developer with an editor like
Dreamweaver.

Re: Contribute -- handcode, server?
Yes, you can edit the code in an external application. The ability to do this
is controllable by the site admin and can be enabled for some savvy users while
excluding the others who might just mess things up. See
