Contribute hangs for 5mins while loading each part of apage

HI,

We have been having a problem here with editing pages in contribute.

We are trying to roll out contribute to 40 users but at present cant get even
one user to be able to edit a page in a sensible amount of time.

By this i mean that when I click on the edit page button contribute begins to
prepare the page to edit but then seems to hang.

I have enabled I/O logging and have seen that it does not actually hang.

It seems to wait for approx 5mins then copys one image or one stylesheet, then
sits and waits another 5mins before doing the next. on a large document it can
take more than one hour to open!!!

Initially i was connecting to the server via network/lan. I decided to try and
use FTP instead incase there was a problem with the lan connection but FTP is
producing the same problem.

We are using IIS 6 and windows XP machines.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Mike,

I think you said this, but to confirm -- did it behave this EXACT SAME WAY
with the direct network connection?

If you had not referred to the network connection, my inclination would have
been that this is an issue of passive settings in the FTP connection, and my
recommendation would have been if set to passive to turn it off, or vice-versa.
But if it was doing the identical thing with the network connection, I have to
say I'm a bit stumped.

Mike,

To help rule out that there is not a LAN issue, have you tried connecting to
another site to see what performance you get with Contribute?

Macromedia Tech Support has a test site that you might contact them and get
the information for testing your Contribute install and LAN.

Another idea. Might be some thing with the firewall settings in the OS. You might try turning it of for a test and see what happens.

I have found the source of the problem!

This morning while testing with and without firewall, i decided to also
uncheck the use proxy server and low and behold contribute worked perfectly!

I then rechecked the box and it started hanging again.

Unfortunatly i cant leave the box unchecked as a solution but our network guys
are now looking at why our ISA server is causing the problem.
