Default Contribute user access via ftp user accounts

Alright, in a few hours I'll dive deeper into Contribute for the first time.
Question - is it necessary to have an ftp account per user, or can Contribute
use a single FTP account? I'm assuming that depeding on the user rights,
Contribute won't let users change files outside their designated folders.

I'm new to the Mac server OS X (and the Unix file permissions) and I've
noticed that if a file is creted by another user, everyone else only has read
access. I'll have to do some research into that, but I'd like to know how
    Contribute work with multiple users.

Any quick posts would be highly appreciated!

Default Re: Contribute user access via ftp user accounts

    Hi,

It's not necessary to have an ftp account per user. A single account can work.

You can administer the site(s) by setting roles in administration that
allow/disallow users to modify folder contents.

I'll have to defer to someone who has server knowledge to address the
specifics of your question - but Contribute will checkout files as users edit
them locking the file from being edited by other Contribute users and checking
them backin upon publish (or cancel). DW can override the checkout if
    necessary.

Great - so just one ftp login for Contribute. That sounds great. I've been
assuming that Contribute works that way.

I just wanted to double check as my supervisor thought differently.

I'm so new to running servers, setting permissions and even newer to
Contribute itself. Thanks for the prompt reply!
