    Default Controlling Image preview size...how?

    Hi

It seem like my ID document increases with about 1Mb in size each time I add an image (.psd). My document currently holds about 120 images, which results in a ID file of about 130Mb, which gives me some problems in our workflow....if there a way to control the size of the embedded previews ??

    TIA

What's the resolution and size of the image? One problem is that if you have digital camera images, many of them are stored at 72 dpi but are huge in dimensions. When InDesign creates a preview it creates on at 72 dpi. If that is the case, you'll need to open them in Photoshop and give them more reasonable dimensions, but a higher resolution.

    Hi Steve

I would probably be able to gain some space by changing the image size, I was just wondering if there were an option somewhere, where one could adjust the quality of the preview image (and stored preview) I my case I would be happy if I just saw a box indicating an image as long as that would make my filesize smaller.

I we tried removing all the images, and my filesize dropped from 130Mb to about 5Mb, so imagepreviews takes up 95% of the file.

Maybe a dumb question - forgive me if it is - but are you sure that these
are image previews that are hogging file space? Could you have embedded the
    images by accident?

They'll still show in the links palette. If they're embedded there will be a
little square icon near the link name which will say 'embedded' when you
hover the mouse over it, and double clicking the link name will bring up the
details window which will also tell you if the graphic is embedded.
