In Acrobat Professional, you can use the PDF Optimizer tool.

Or...in the absence of that just re-export the file from InDesign.
Don't have the file? Place the PDF in ID and re-export it.

Re: convert a file from pdf version 1.4 to1.3. Originally an Indesign file
Thank you so much for this. I've just spent our out trying to figure out how to do this, without buying the Nice PDF Version Converter. I do have Acrobat Professional 6 but I could find no documentation as to how to use Acrobat itself to convert an existing version 1.5 PDF file to a verion 1.4 (which I need in order to be able to import it into Atlas.ti 6 qualitative research software. The Optimizer converted it in an instant, while trying to re-print the PDF using Acrobat took forever with my old laptop, and then once I opened the file and saved it again, it converted it back into version 1.5... Thanks again.
