Re: Convert Bitmap to Vector
Hi, the dog wasn't actually converted to a vector that allows you to
manipulate the paths. It was pasted back in as a "vector object". The first
step indicates a marquee selection was made to cut out the background from
the dog. The dog portion is then copied (or cut) and pasted into a new
document. In MX the mode changes for automatically.
You can then add Live Effects such as the drop shadow.

Re: Convert Bitmap to Vector
The page header, "Convert the bitmap dog to a vector object," is very
misleading. It should be something like "Convert the selection to a
floating object."
If you want to create a floating object from a selection, the go back to
the beginning of the article and follow the instructions.
Best regards,
Linda Rathgeber

Re: Convert Bitmap to Vector
Thx Linda
I guess I should have mentioned why I wanted to do it.
I was trying to create the tail of a comet.
After I posted, I discovered that it explicitly says in the help file that you cannot convert a bitmap to a vector. I further discovered that if play with the stroke settings, I can reach the desired effect.
I'm sure it could have been done a lot cleaner in Freehand, but I'm more confident with Fireworks.
Thx again
Mike..
