Default Convert .DOC to PDF

Our local organization has a printed newsletter that is created with Word (Office 2000 version). I want to convert this to a .PDF ( for online publication ), but when we try to export the .DOC to an .htm file, it has a problem with the text wrap feature, and a few boarder features as well. Ultimately, the doc won't convert properly..

The convert features in MSWord, wants to maintain a base standard of ie5 for the .htm conversion, and I can't tell Word that this is not the ultimate goal of the conversion, and that I don't care about the base standard for .htm in this case..

I have used the acrobat convert online, and it works perfectly. How do I purchase or obtain this convert feature. I use Acrobat 4.05c on a win98 machine..

I would like to keep it simple.. but will spend if I can keep my same OS..etc..

Thanks

Is Acrobat 4.05c a version of Reader? Is there a corresponding Acrobat Distiller application. DO you have an Acrobat Distiller printer installed?

The way to create a PDF is, with a full copy of Acrobat installed, print to a Postscript Printer to create a Postscript file. OPen the Distiller application, select suitable Job Options, and then use File> Open to open the Postscript file that Distiller will convert to a PDF file using the parameters in the Job Options.

If you want to purchase a full copy of the most recent Acrobat Release check out the Sytem requirements first at <http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobatstd/systemreqs.html>
that show that Win 98 SE is the lowest level of OS supported by Acrobat 6 Standard version. Alternatives may exist at www.planetpdf.com in the tools section.

Yes this is a full version, but I don't believe I have any "Distiller" options, but I will search.. I don't use a Postscript printer either. So, do I just set up a pseudo PS printer, and print it out as a PS file?

Thanks

If Acrobat is installed correctly you will have a printer called "Distiller" or "Acrobat Distiller."

If you don't have Distiller in your applications menu (Start>Programs>Distiller) and you don't have one of the printers that WT mentioned (Distiller or Acrobat Distiller) then it's likely that the 4.0c you have is not a full version of Acrobat, but is instead a version of Acrobat Reader. There was quite some confusion in naming these objects that Adobe have tried to clear up, but some confision is still present. What does the title of the 4.05c application offer iin the splash screen or the title bar at the top of the Window. If the word Reader appears then you will know what you've got. Do you have the Original CD for 4.05c?

If it turns out you have a version of Reader, your options to convert a DOC file to PDF on your machine are Acrobat Standard 6.01 or Acrobat Professional 6.01 from Adobe, Acrobat 5.05 from ebay or other web based supplier (try searching Google for "buy Acrobat 5"), or check out www.planetpdf.com in the tools part - but watch out here - lots of the planetpdf tools are plugins and you need the Adobe Acrobat version to plugin to.

Adobe Acrobat Business Tools.

Yes I have the original CD.. I tried uninstall and reinstall, and I don't get any errors or anything, just no distiller?

I also use this quite frequently to convert .htm to .pdf, so I think it is a full version, unless I am missing something..

Acrobat Business Tools is a very limited version of Acrobat. It does
not include Distiller.

Business Tools was $69; Acrobat was $250. You are missing quite a lot,
but it was a good bargain...

OK.. Now that I have all the facts, Can I add Distiller to this or do I have to buy a new version..

I have used this for years, and it only became apparent when I recently wanted to do something more elaborate than I had done in the past..

Thanks

Distiller is not available separately. It comes with Acrobat Standard
and Acrobat Professional.

OK, I guess I just screwed myself again.. I purchased 6.0 Professional upgrade, and now Adobe says my existing product doesn't qualify for the upgrade.. even though the package says it upgrades all 4.x, 5. and 6.0 standard.. and now I have an open package I can't return..

Hummmmmm. I guess I'm just not destined to resolve this anytime soon..

Unfortunately I was never aware that I had purchased something that wasn't upgradeable..

Adobe says my product was upgradeable at one time, to 5.0, just not now.. Makes not too much sense to me. AT least not a few hundred dollars of sense/cents I'm out now.. :(

I'm sorry, I thought you had Acrobat 4.05c, but upon re-reading it appears you have Business Tools. They are correct, there is no BT->Acrobat 6 Pro upgrade path.

Makes sense, though, you're talking about a $50 product vs. a $450 product.
