Convert Selection to a Path?

Newb Fireworks user here... is there a way to convert a selection to a path?

Not from within Fireworks. Here's what I do:

1. Copy the selection.

2. Open Photoshop (I still use v3.0) and paste the selection into a new
document.

3. Use Photoshop's Path tools to convert the selection to a path.

4. Copy the path and paste it back into FW as vectors.

I'm reasonable sure some other apps will work, too.

Well, I beleive if you fill selection with black, then invert it, then fill
with white (there must be some option like "Fill selection only" among fill
tool options somewhere), then save the result as new separate file, then
import it into Freehand or Flash, you'll be able to do trace job there. If
you don't have FH or Flash, try searching for freeware trace tools like
AutoTrace.
