Convert to B&W?!?!
Does anyone know of a way to globally convert a color InDesign document and swatches to black and white? (granted, I know I have to do the links separately) This is something easily done in Illustrator and Photoshop, but what about Ind?

Re: Convert to B&W?!?!
It can't be done in the InDesign. In Photoshop or Illustrator, you're only in one color space. In InDesign, you can have a complete mix of color spaces.
If you choose to print to Composite Gray, all but EPS will be converted and print as grayscale. If you're creating a PDF, choose this option when creating PostScript and use Distiller or the Adobe PDF printer.

Re: Convert to B&W?!?!
I realize it is called grayscale. and cymk is called process too. sorry about that.
and as far as I can see I have no greyscale profiles at all. Anyone know of a good place to download alternative profiles?
Ultimately I may need more control than a straight profile conversion can offer. I need to be able to take things on the lighter end of the scale and for them to be darker so they do not drop out when moving to the new color space.

Re: Convert to B&W?!?!
Gray Gamma 1.8, Gray Gamma 2.2. I've never heard of alternative profiles available.

Re: Convert to B&W?!?!
Dave,
This script will convert all colors in an ID doc to a black only percentage based on the color's luminosity. Here's a compiled version:
<http://www.evansday.com/scripts/colortograyscale.hqx>
For CMYK colors the document's current CMYK profile influences the color's luminosity and the resulting K value. Also, if you want to increase the final K percentages you can experiment with changing the multiplier in this line:
set myKvalue to (100 - myLum) * 1.1
Increasing the 1.1 value results in higher K percentages.
================
tell application "InDesign CS"
tell document 1
repeat with a from 1 to count of every color
try
set space of color a to LAB
set myLab to color value of color a
set myLum to item 1 of myLab
set myKvalue to (100 - myLum) * 1.1
set space of color a to CMYK
set {w, x, y, z} to color value of color a
set color value of color a to {0, 0, 0, myKvalue}
end try
end repeat
end tell
end tell

Steve, In Photoshop CMYK profiles can be loaded as a Grayscale working space, or any custom dot gain curve can be built. If you do that and save the Color Setting, the custom Grayscale profile included in that setting will be available in Acrobat.
