Convertin RGB to CMYK - Macromedia Freehand

Is it better to convert my phontos from RGB to CMYK in Photoshop and them import them into Freehand MXa or convert them when I print them from Freehand MXa to Adobe Acrobate 6 Distiller? Does it matter?...

We process all bitmaps through Photoshop first here which includes
converting them to CMYK. But we need to do that so that the proper
curves are applied to images giving them the best chance to reproduce
properly in the newspaper. I'm not sure if it matters for other endgames.

Depends on what is going to happen to the PDF file.

If it's for offset press, or through almost any Postscript workflow or
CMYK printer, then you should be placing a CMYK image in FreeHand.

If it's going to be for screen use, or it's going to be printed on an
inkjet 'Photo' type printer, (particularly those with more than 4
inks) RGB is usually the best.

Make sure that your Distiller prefs are set so that they do not
    convert the color space.

Thanks for your information. I am sending the "PDF" to a magazine publisher to print in 4 color process. As recommended, I did convert the photos to cmyk in Photoshop and then imported them into Freehand MXa
