Converting immage to picture for Filemaker Containor field

I have a Filemaker database 8.0 into whose containor field I insert a "picture" of a document (letters, notes, lab results) via the filemaker script step "insert picture." My previous scanner used photoshop and the document was saved as a TIFF file. Thus, when I lookd at the field I saw the picture of the desired document.

Now I just purchased Scansnap with adobe 7.0. This saves the scanned document as a PDF file. If I try to insert the file into the Filemaker data base field, I only see the PDF icon rather than the document itself. Similarly wih converstion to TIFF or JPEG I just see the icon in the field rather than the document. I have tried inserting and importing various ways without success. So, the only thing I see to do is convert the PDF to picture that I can then insert into Filemaker and here is the question for forum useres. Is there a simpler way to do this than, in Adobe, select the desired file (in organizer) use the picture tool to highlite the entire document, then copy into the Filemaker field. Is it possible to convert to picture automatically? I do not want to use OCR as checking for accuracy is time consuming and displacing a decimal point could be disastrous.
