converting to outline when fonts are grouped
Hey,
I have been doing the Freehand thing for a while, and have a few issues with
this newest version. Firstly, when items are grouped, I can't convert fonts to
outlines???I ungroup and then convert them?s-l-o-w?? As well when I have fonts
pasted into object, once again I find myself unable to convert to outlines.
Argh. Maybe I just haven't found that magic button?
Also in the same vain....when I used to have objects pasted into one another,
the tool was much easier to use when moving the various objects around. There
used to be this quasi-star that you could drag around and,or double click and
you could easily manipulate the object while STILL inside the other. In any
case this feature gave me a clear advantage over using illustrator, and now it
has become counter-intuitive.
HELP Me if you can...

Re: converting to outline when fonts are grouped
Lisa,
I would recommend that you become aquainted with the super-select and
sub-select operations to help aleviate these problems. I agree that it was
far more convenient to be able to select a group and convert to paths, or
to select a clipping path and move it's contents with a modifier key, but
unfortunately MM has altered these functions in implementing Freehand's
new group behavior. If you familiarize yourself with the keyboard
shortcuts, or add the toolbar buttons for super- and sub-selection, the
new process isn't too much slower than the old. You can still get the
'quasi-star' by selecting 'contents' in the object properties panel and
using the old modifier key (Ctrl in Windows. I don't remember if it's
Option or Command in MacOS), but I've become accustom to sub-selecting a
clipping path to select it's contents instead.

Re: converting to outline when fonts are grouped
Lisa
To convert all fonts in a group to paths:
select the group
ungroup all the elements (command + shift + G on Mac)
with everything still selected go to menu and convert fonts to
paths (all the fonts in the group will be converted)
group the elements (command + G on Mac)
This is two extra steps from old way but it still avoids having
to convert fonts one at a time.

Re: converting to outline when fonts are grouped
There is an other way. (I hope that macromedia remove the sub-selections
"contents". It is useless and
harmful).
You must use "Find & Replace" and select the button"select" . After choose
font.
You can tries them on the document or on the selected area. Once it selects to
you you
convert fonts to outlines.
