Cookies are great for storing client specific, simple data. They cannot store
complex datatypes like objects, structures, etc. So the session scope is
especially useful for complex data types or when you just have a lot of data.

Thanks for your reply i am currently using session variables and dealing with
simple data types which are simple input into a database and then are cleared
when the user logs out would you say there is any point for me to change them
    to cookies?

    Thanks

    What Ken said.

You should also consider that cookies are stored on the client, and thus
become hackable. You introduce potential security issues into your app that
you will have to deal with if you start storing client-side. You will also
have to *maybe* deal with more support issues as you are transferring some of
your functionality to browsers not under your own control.

Keep session vars unless you are running out of memory on the server or
    something similarly disastrous.
