Default Copy & Paste F10 to Photoshop Crash

I am running OSX on a brand new mac with all new software, freehand 10 and photoshop 7. When i try and copy and paste from freehand to photoshop freehand bombs out. I have all the same settings i use when i was running OS9.2 so nothing has changed there.

But it seems as if if there is anything in the paste board/clipboard when i jump to photoshop - freehand quits out. I can special copy from freehand and that works but it is say when you have command 'x' ed into a box say and the object is still in the clip board and you forget about it and 10 mins late swap to photoshop then - crash frehand.

    VERY Very frustrated!

    Any one help out?

Or is there a way to purge freehand clip board before swapping to photoshop?

(I run both programs together by the way.

    Much appreciated

This happens to me all the time with FH 10 and PS 7... the thing I've learned to do is to uncheck all of the clipboard formats except for ASCI... this is in your FH export prefs. That seems to stop the FH bomb and the attendant PS beachball spinlock bomb. Good luck!

Hey will try it, thanks a lot for the quick response. Macromedia havent exactly been forthcoming. Just reading some threads and I am not sure about upgrading to mx seeing how many of you guys are slating it!

It took me 6 months to dare OSX! Then half my fonts crashed out! Very expensive especially as we are a new company!

    Again many thanks...

    Stodge,

Please don't let the tone of the forum hold you back from giving FreeHand MX a try. We are finding that a significant number of the issues that are being vocalized here are actually issues that are caused by third party applications, drivers or utilities.

One example of this was a report of the command keys with in FreeHand were missing. After a little more digging by the user who was in contact with our QA Manager, it was discovered that there was a conflict with a program called CopyPaste-X which allowed multiple paste boards.

If you have any concerns about a specific issue please don't hesitate to ask.

Do you have a list of the conflicting programs and drivers? Freehand MX is driving me crazy with its sluggish response, tool sub-selection, drawing tools and selection tools. If there is some other program causing these problems I'd love to be able to figure it out and get a setup that I work well with.

Well Stodge, if copying paths from FHMX to Photoshop 7 on Mac OS X is what
you have in mind, you should be aware that there are hoops to jump through
to make that happen. Copy and Paste does not work. This is copied from my
    response to an earlier thread:

    ---
I found a workaround to get paths from FHMX into Photoshop 7, for Mac OSX at
least. The only way is with drag-and-drop.

    1. In FHMX Preferences > Export, 'Freehand' must be _unchecked_ (very
important). 'Illustrator' must be checked. Set 'Convert Colors' to 'RGB and
    CMYK'.

    2. Set up the FHMX and Photoshop document windows so you can drag-and-drop.

    3. With the FHMX pointer tool, Command-drag the paths from the FHMX document
window to the Photoshop window. When you see a black outline in the
Photoshop window, release the mouse button. You'll see your paths appear in
Photoshop's Paths panel. (Windows users might try Control-drag.)

These settings disable direct copy and paste or drag-and-drop of pixels from
FHMX to Photoshop. For that you will now need to use Copy Special >
    Photoshop 4/5.

Oddly enough, even with the 'Freehand' export preference disabled you can
still copy/paste and drag-and-drop between Freehand MX documents.

    ---
I don't know if the fault is with FHMX or Photoshop 7, but copying paths
from FH9 to PS7 still works.

Thanks i willl/am trying all these suggestions! I take it that F10 and FHMX are similar enough for these suggestions to be the same?

Still very grateful for all help. Didnt think it would work posting but you have all proved me wrong!!

    Again many thanks

    Default Another F10 thing.....

Hi another worrisome thing is now happening...

I create filesin photoshop, layered hires 300dpi and to fire off to clients I lo res them (100dpi) save them as tifs bring into frehand 10 and pdf them.

So when i get approval - i then save the same layered file again as Hi res ie. the same resolution (300dpi) but name it hi res or whatever. When i then try and import that hi res file into freehand it says it isnt a recognisable format and wont bring it in!!!!

BUT it will bring a lo res version of fthe same file...

I am very confused (again) never had this with freehand 9 at all

Again the cry is Please advise?

It sounds like you're experiencing FH's somewhat shaky support of layered
TIFFs and PSDs - the reason why I'd advise flattening your layered Photoshop
work and saving as a separate, flattened version (TIFF or EPS) for placement
    in Freehand.
