Copy/Pasting/Export into Photoshop
I understand this is a known issue - but I'm in serious trouble if I can't
seamlessly copy paste vector images from MX into Photoshop. I have tried
everything I can think of - to no avail.
I am running OSX 10.3.4 but still have 9.2 - I can open other old apps (like
Quark 5) in the old operating system, but I can no longer open my FH 9, which I
so desperately need to do in order to use the copy/paste function - can anyone
out there explain to me why the old FH won't open anymore?
And if anyone has found a workaround (that doesn't just copy the outline of a
path) I'd love to hear about it. I need the vector images with no white
background and with any color fills still intact!
HELP!

Re: Copy/Pasting/Export into Photoshop
Try this with FH9. Select the FH9 application icon on your Hard Drive.
Choose "Get Info" from the Finder File menu. Check the box that says
"Open in Classic"
I have FH9 running on OS 10.3.4 so it it possible. I also copy/paste
into Photoshop (v. 7) without any problems.

Re: Copy/Pasting/Export into Photoshop
Rich,
Thanks for the suggestion, however, it still doesn't work - unless I have
Photoshop open in the classic mode as well ...
Very frustrating - what is the point of having a new OS and access to features
I didn't have before, if I can't work with the same ease as what I had before.
I just can't believe that a function as basic as this was not figured into MX
and completely working before they released this softward for OSX.
I don't care to open in the old OS anymore - it causes too many problems and
slows things down. I've let Macromedia know that I am giving up on FH and going
over to Illustrator, if they don't come up with a fix for this very soon!
Again, thanks for the help. It's good to know I can do this if I have to.

Re: Copy/Pasting/Export into Photoshop
Are you running FHMX 11.0.2? If not, you'll need to update. I'm able to copy
and paste from FHMX to Photoshop CS.
1. To copy FH vector art to RGB pixels in Photoshop, use Edit > Special >
Copy Special 'Photoshop 4/5'.
2. To copy FH paths to PS paths or shape layers, you may need a preparatory
step to clear the clipboard. First, do a 'Photoshop 4/5' copy and paste as
pixels. (You can delete this PS layer later).
3. For copying FH paths to paste into Photoshop as paths or shapes, choose
Copy Special and the correct color space for the target document. Your
source colors in FH should be the same as the target PS document.
4. Preferences > Export > Clipboard > 'Convert Colors to' sets the type of
copy used when you do a plain Copy command. I also keep 'Illustrator'
checked in my Export prefs.
Hope this helps. Let us know if it works for you.

Re: Copy/Pasting/Export into Photoshop
Judy,
I have the latest version of FHMX you mention - don't have Photoshop CS, just
plain old PShop 7.0.1 - I'm not a beginner, been using both programs forever
and never had any problems until MX and new OSX.
I've already tried everything you've suggested and nothing works. I have to
place many different vector logos from FH into PShop - don't have much use for
copying paths - I used to be able to go "file to place" in PShop from FH, or
copy/paste from FH to PShop - that no longer works, unless I open both programs
in classic mode, which I don't want to have to do anymore!
Copy/paste, copy/special - doesn't matter what I do, I end up with an empty
box in Photoshop. And yes, I've set the preferences correctly as well.

Re: Copy/Pasting/Export into Photoshop
If you are in a jam, here is sure way.
Save the FH art as a generic eps then open that in PS. I use a
reference rectangle to register the art. If art is selected in FH
you can choose to export the selected art only.
Hope this helps.
