Copying and pasting into different Layers - Macromedia Freehand

Here's a bug that has always bugged me but maybe I'm missing something. If I draw something in 'layer 1' then copy it, select 'layer 2' then try and paste this object into that layer, it doesn't work. Whenever I try and paste an object into another layer it always gets pasted into the layer it originated from. Even if I lock that layer and turn off it's visibility. any help? thank you...

    wutodd,
In your preferences, under the tab 'general', uncheck 'Remember Layer
    Info'.

The behavior you're seeing is not a bug. It's just the way FH works.

Here's how I prefer to copy objects from one layer to another on the same
    page.
    1. In Preferences, check Panels > Clicking on layer name moves selected
    object.
    2. Select object. Clone. Click on target layer name.

Another way to move copies is Copy. Then select (or subselect) an object on
the target layer and use 'Paste in Front' or 'Paste Behind'. This is very
handy for pasting objects into groups.

An ordinary Paste pastes into the center of the doent window, wherever
    you are in the doent.

Ahh yes, thanks - all this time i thought it was a bug in fh - but turning off
the option in preferences did the trick too

that helps I like drawing in freehand much better than illustrator, the pen
tool is much more intuitive in fh
