copying databases - MySQL

I have MySQL 4.1 installed in my windows machine, now installed it on another machine and copied databases to that other machine thru our network, but in machine where I just installed it can't connect to the databases (connector in place in Tomcat where it belongs..) this happened to me a few months ago, when tried to copy databases from my machine at home to my machine at work.. why can't databases be copied? thank you.....

    old server:
    mysqldump -p -h servername -u username databasename > myexport.mysql

    or just

    mysqldump databasename > myexport.mysql

Then copy the text file to the new server, then log into the new server from
    the command line...

    new server:
    mysql> source myexport.mysql
