corel files
Any body know why my new Fireworks MX won't open CorelDraw (.cdr) files, even though they are listed as a known file type. I get "Unknown file type" for an error message. I'm running Win XP, using Corel 11, though I can't get earlier version to open correctly either.
thanks,
Carl

Re: corel files
I have not had much luck with Corel files either. I don't own Corel so I
only receive them from clients, and I don't have any control over how they
save the files in the first place. I did read on the MM site that the Corel
files must be uncompressed, but it did not state which version of Corel was
the limit.

Choose File > Save As. File type: CDR, Sort Type: Vector, Version: 7.
Click on the "Advanced" button. Uncheck both options under File
Optimization. Click OK, and then on Save. Alternatively, export as an AI
file.

Re: corel files
Thanks to all for you input. The suggestions from Linda allowed for the opening of CD files but the colors were wrong and graphics were misaligned or not drawn properly. I found that saving as a .png works well, especially since Fireworks saves it's own files in that format.
thanks again,
Carl

instead of CMYK. The dissadvantage to exporting as a PNG file to
Fireworks is that the image is no longer editable vectors. If you arn't
satisfied with the Corel Draw v.7 import, try exporting it in ai v7
format instead.
