Crash when restarting from OS 9 but not OS X - Mac Applications & Software

Hello! I have a beige G3/266 minitower that has been upgraded with a Sonnet G4/500 ZIF, Rev. B ROMs, two 120GB hard drives, 768MB RAM, and a Sonnet Tempo Trio FireWire/USB2 card. Default Crash when restarting from OS 9 but not OS X

    Hello!

I have a beige G3/266 minitower that has been upgraded with a Sonnet
G4/500 ZIF, Rev. B ROMs, two 120GB hard drives, 768MB RAM, and a Sonnet
Tempo Trio FireWire/USB2 card. One hard drive is partitioned into two
parts so as to allow OS X 10.2.6 to boot; the OS X partition is 7.9GB
while the rest is allocated to OS 9 and applications.

The system has been running fine for a year in OS X, but a few weeks ago
I found the need to go back to OS 9 to run an old program. Booting into
OS 9 works -- but restarting from there freezes the machine, whether I'm
trying to boot back into OS 9 or switch to OS X. The hard drive icons
simply disappear if I choose Restart, and I have to do a
    Control-Command-Power to restart the machine.

As I rarely use OS 9 these days it's unlikely to become a major
problem... but it's annoying nonetheless to know that I can't reboot
from OS 9. Zapping PRAM didn't help; nor did DiskWarrior, Norton Disk
Doctor, or a clean reinstall of OS 9 from an original 9.2.1 CD and the
    9.2.2 updater.

Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Have you tried rebooting into OS9 with extensions off? Hold down the
shift key during the boot process to do so. If the problem doesn't
happen in that case, it might indicate that you have some corrupted
    extensions.

Can't be a corrupted extension, because it happens even with a clean,
brand-new OS 9.2.2 System Folder... with *nothing* migrated over from
    the old one.

That notwithstanding, the problem doesn't occur after a shift-boot, only
    on a normal boot.

Booting into 9 is fine... it's restarting or shutting down *from* OS 9
that's the problem. I guess I wasn't clear enough -- not the first time
    that's happened. :-)

Yes, a clean System Folder -- didn't overwrite the old one.

I needed to boot into OS 9 to make a bootable CD... from OS X I can
*copy* a bootable CD but I've never been able to modify an existing
bootable image or make a new one. And yes, I know about BootCD -- but
I'm making bootable OS 9 CDs, not OS X. (They're for one of the
classrooms I administer, which is still on OS 9.)

Did it happen before the CPU upgrades?

I never ran OS X before the CPU upgrade, so I don't have that
comparison. However, the last time I ran OS 9 -- about a year ago -- I
already had the CPU upgrade in place and I *was* able to restart from OS
9 back then. I'm just wondering what could have changed since, other
    than revisions to Jaguar.
