    Default Crash when switching workspaces

I start a magazine using a workspace for editing, with just a few essential
palettes docked to the side, and then switch to a layout workspace with a
lot of palettes open in the second monitor.

It seems that every time I switch from my editing workspace to the layout
workspace, InDesign crashes. The only method that seems safe is to reapply
the edit workspace, then switch to layout.

I am guessing that use of palettes during editing is changing the
configuration of the last-used version of the edit workspace from that which
is stored in workspace, and that InDesign is expecting the stored version as
a starting point for making the transition. But that's only a guess.

Does anybody else have problems like this or know what's happening?

Default Re: Crash when switching workspaces

    Ken,

I am the graphic artist for a small company and a one person department. I operate Indesign CS on Windows XP.

Switching workspaces is something that I seldom do in my workflow but I have experienced the same problem. I have no idea why but I use the same workaround as you. Select again the workspace you are in before switching to another. (As you mentioned in your comment to Hans P. Meyer- Indesign crashes when clicking on a textbox... June 30) Annoying, yes, but it does seem to work.

This is the only thing I can add and maybe it was this way for you too: Once Indesign crashes in the attempt to switch, it is perpetual. No matter how many times I restart any and everything, whether a doc is open or closed, any attempt to switch workspaces (without the workaround) will crash Indesign.

Well, I am no help but maybe I lent some weight to the problem.

The number of InDesign users suffering this problem appears now to have
    increased by 100 per cent.

Thanks for your comments Gretchen. It's good to know that it's not just me.
As you say, once InDesign has crashed in this way, any attempt to switch
workspaces will cause it to crash again unless you re-select the workspace
you are already in. It's just one more workaround that becomes natural
practice - like changing and re-selecting the custom shortcuts file after a
    patch or plug-in update.
