Crash with selection tool after 3.0.1 update
I am experiencing the same issue after updating to 3.0.1 - I have ssen the other post and tried disabling hardware graphics accelleration, which did not fix it. I am unable to delete the preferences - no idea when to press Shift + Alt + Ctrl because it seems to have no effect nomatter how quickly I press it.
Any ideas on what causes this bug which makes Indesign totally unusable?

Re: Crash with selection tool after 3.0.1 update
I'm having exactly the same problem after updating to 3.01 (as well as other problems). I too tried deleting prefs using alt+ctl+shift when ID is starting up but that doesn't work for me, so I found all the relevent files and deleted them.
Pref files can be found in C:/documents and settings/[user]/application data/adobe/InDesign/version 3.0
If you cannot see any of these folders you might have to make sure you're viewing hidden files and folders.
Just delete every file in there (but not the sub-folders). Could also try emptying the Adobe AUM and Adobe UM folders if they exist under the Adobe folder.
Sadly for me this fixed nothing, and I'm still fuming that Adobe can put out an update patch that is so unstable on my fairly new and standard PC.

Re: Crash with selection tool after 3.0.1 update
FYI, you could try some of the troubleshooting listed below. I'm working my way through it and still no luck:
