"Create PDF from Multiple Files" scrambles page order

When using the "Create PDF from Multiple Files" command,
the files selected in the "Create PDF from Multiple Documents" dialog box
appear in scrambled order in the "Files to Combine" list,
producing a pdf with the pages in this scrambled order,
unless you manually "Move Up" and "Move Down" to get the list of files
in the correct order.
This is not a big problem if it's ten files or less,
but is a huge and awkward task when it's several hundred tiffs
to be made into a single pdf (a book).

Why is this happening, and how can I solve it?

Macintosh G4, OSX 10.3.3, Acrobat6.01
Files are sequentially numbered tiffs:
001.tif, 002.tif, 003.tif, etc.

It's a function of the OS. The list of files is collected in a rather convoluted fashion. Check out messages from Graham O'Connor. He may be able to help you.

It;s funny how you associate problems with certain people - I saw the
message and thought of Graham immediately ... saying that .. he has
produced a solid plug-in for this task ;-)
