Creating a Steel Ball (Chrome Sphere)
How would one create a steel/chrome ball with Fireworks. I have tried to no avail by starting out with a circle, then bevel embossing it. That makes a nice sphere but does not look steel enough. I then purchased Eye Candy 4000, the full version which has a Chrome feature. I can now create a chrome effect but it no longer looks like sphere. I would greatly appreciate some help.

If you like the chrome effect you created, go with that; else search the
archives of this group (http://groups.google.com/ advanced group search)
and look for chrome, maybe with 'Richiebee'.

Re: Creating a Steel Ball (Chrome Sphere)
Speaking of CBT Cafe...I have their Fireworks MX Selections | Masking video
training CD. I wish that I had this a long time ago. There is nothing like
being able to see as well as hear something being done in real time. In
fact, now that I have a dual monitor set-up, I run the CBT CD on one monitor
while working along in Fireworks on the other. I watch, listen, pause the
movie, and try it out right away. I can easily "rewind" the video to watch
a part over again if I am confused, and then pause it again to apply the
techniques being demonstrated.
This is not advanced Fireworks. It covers all of the basics, and there are
so many tips and things to follow along with. I would recommend that
someone buy this CD before going out and spending a bunch of money on books,
especially for those just starting out with Fireworks.
BTW, I'm just a satisfied consumer of CBT, and not a sales rep nor am I a
re-seller or affiliate. Just thought that anyone reading this who may have
visited CBT Cafe previously or will in the future could get an opinion from
a user.
Craig.

Next, you'll be ready to make a tiny orange out of clay! LOL!
(If you don't "get it," I'd be happy to forward the website--I think it was
Dan Vendel who posted it)
And I totally agree.

Re: Creating a Steel Ball (Chrome Sphere)
You don't need to bevel emboss it. Those controls are already built into
the Chrome filter and are echoed in a lot of the EC 4000 filters.
Start from scratch and try this:
1) Draw a circle with a height/width of 200 pixels.
2) Add the Chrome Filter
3) Set the following:
Bevel Width: 100 (half the H/W value of the circle)
Bevel Height Scale: 50
Smoothness: 50
Ripple Thickness: 10
Ripple Width: 115
Random Seed: 7989 (you can play around with random seed as much as you
want (jotting down the numbers that give you the best results).
6) Try other Reflection Maps to get different effects/tinting.
5) For some more depth, add a perspective shadow either using native methods
(Google search: perspective shadow... most tutorials regarding this are
fairly generic) or use ShadowLab (EC 4000).
Hope that helps,
Sam

Here's a quick one for you - http://www.richiebee.ca/public/chromeball.png
Might not be quite what you're after, but radial or elliptical gradients are
the key however you wish to represent your reflections...
