    Default Creating clipping masks temperamental?

Does anyone else find creating basic clipping masks throws up error messages even if all layers are perfectly suitable, or am I just a bit cack-handed?

You might get more responses if you tell what OS and what version AI your running. And also what kind of error message are you getting?

Dee, look more closely at the bottom of the post... you're too thorough!

The error message I was getting, mainly, was:

'Can't make clipping mask. The top selected object must be a path, a compound shape, a text object, or a group of those.'

But, after responding to Pentimento's post about clipping masks may have answered my own question; If the clip shape and image are already in a sub-layer [group] and are both selected to make a clipping group, then it will throw up this message. If they are in the first level of a layer there are no problems.

I've never noticed this before. Am I being a dim?

Sorry, I didn't see the system info at the bottom. I think the word cack-handed threw me off.

Glad you worked it out Lee. In defense of Dee, I was musing about "cack-handed" myself and missed the bottom. Never heard that before. What does it mean?

LOL! I often wonder how many British users post on the Adobe forums. I work with a couple of Publications guys who write tech manuals, and there is a growing trend to adopt US English, much to their dismay. It doesn't really bother me when I'm trying to set up my video recorder, but UK English has some lovely matching of words, such as 'cack-handed'. Cack is a generally socially acceptable noun for manure, and someone who is 'cack-handed' is lacking in dexterity of the hands!
