creating dashes to meet in corners??
is there a way I can apply dashes to a shape drawn but have the dashes always meet in the corners of the shape?
I Have played around with the pattern brush but it always seems to leave a space when the corners meet..??

Use a Pattern Brush. You can make one of your own, or use one of those found in Window - Brush Libraries - Borders.

Lister,
If you are defining a custom dashed pattern brush of your own, you need to create a corner tile with a L-shaped dash in it.
Modifying the pre-defined brushes is the easiest way to get a start on it. In AI CS they are in the library "Borders-Dashed" which shows up on the Brush Libraries menu; in AI 10 and earlier there is one simple black dash in the Border Samples library and you can find the complete dashed borders library by using the Other Libraries.. command and navigating to Illustrator Extras/Brush Libraries/Borders/Dashed.ai.

OK, now which is it: "a L-shaped dash" or "an L-shaped dash"?
I always type 'an' because it reads better. But I think 'a' may be grammatically correct.
Does anyone know? I mean, this is IMPORTANT.

Re: creating dashes to meet in corners??
An L is correct.
L sounds like it starts with an E.

Yea, but it reads like it starts with an L :)

Re: creating dashes to meet in corners??
The rule is: A is used before words that begin with a consonant sound; an is used before words with a vowel sound. So, it's "an L-shaped dash."

Sebranek et al are SUCH show-offs. Bet they don't know how to colorize a grayscale
in AICS!

You can cut the tension here with a knife.

Re: creating dashes to meet in corners??
I first wrote "a cornered dash in it", and then modified "cornered" to "L-shaped".
Then I noticed the mismatch in the article as soon as I saw it posted, but I had to dash off (pun intended) to a meeting and didn't have time to edit it before you all noticed.

And the tension builds.
