I've seen this trick only used a couple of times on Macrodmedia's home page to advertise a couple of new things about flash and havent seen it since. what it was used for was a menu. If you rolled over on option(or clicked on it) the others shrunk and got greyed out, when you rolled down the next one would move up and the others would do the former. if anyone can help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Creating Dynamic Display
well I know that, and i've used it before, but the effect im going for is much smoother than the up/down bit that that technique accomplishes. thanks for the suggestion tho.

Re: Creating Dynamic Display
I think what you are looking for is a motion tween. You design the Box the way you want it when greyed out, the set the Action for the mouse over to play the movie clip and stop at the end. Vice versa when you move the mouse off. It takes a liitle time to make the first one, but once you have it, you can make a template with that to create a navigation bar, or pictures.

Re: Creating Dynamic Display
What I am trying to do is create a box that will, when rolled over by the cursor, expand so that the text inside of it is readable and then return to its original state when the mouse rolls off.
Without seeing an example, I'm not sure of the exact effect you're looking for, however, what you want to do will be most likely accomplished dynamically with Actionscript, and not through basic methods of animation. Is there a site you could point to that shows the effect you're looking for? Otherwise we could start anywhere to try and solve this problem.

Re: Creating Dynamic Display
ok. The Ghost hit it right on the head. that tsunami thing is pretty much it with a few exceptions(that im sure i can figure out myself, if not ill be back...). now if someone could direct me somewhere that would explain the scripting and/or tell me how i could keep the "top" of the tsunami under the mouse that would be great. thanks for all the help guys, i appreciate it. I'm glad i registered, lol.
