Creating or importing charts into Illustrator CS

I'm working on a gardening catalogue which has a mix of clear cut illustrations and tables showing products/descriptions/qty/prices over a background watermark. Can the tables be created in Illustrator? Am I better off doing this job in Indesign? Thanks for your time.

InDesign has great table support. You can either create them within the application using controls on the Table menu or the Table palette. Or you can choose File > Open and open Word documents or Excel spreadsheets which are converted to InDesign tables.

Create the illustrations in Illustrator, and place them into InDesign.
